STANDING ORDER MANDATE OBJECTIVES AND RULES OBJECTIVES
a.
To keep a
register of the addresses of past members of the School;
b.
to maintain a
means of communication between the School and Old Aldenhamians and between
Old Aldenhamians inter se;
c.
to arrange,
if possible, for at least one number of the “The Aldenhamiana”, containing a
summary of events of interest to Old Aldenhamians, to be sent annually to
all members who shall have paid their subscriptions;
d.
to arrange
for an Old Aldenhamian Dinner to be held from time to time;
e
to promote
communication between Old Aldenhamians by means of Annual and other
meetings;
f.
to enable Old
Aldenhamians, by means of their Committee, to take united action in any
matter concerning the interest of the whole body;
g.
to further
the interests of the School and of its past and present members in such
other ways as may from time to time be possible.
RULES 1. The Society shall consist of all
Old Aldenhamians existing on 9th April 1902 (designated original members)
and others from time to time to be elected under the following provisions. 2. Each original member of the Society
is requested to contribute £1.05 towards the funds thereof. 3. All boys and girls educated at the
School shall, on or at any time after leaving, be eligible for election as
members of the Society on payment of such subscription as may have been
determined by the Committee from time to time. 4.
a)
Every member of the Common Room who has been at
the School for five years shall be invited to become an Honorary Member of
the Society.
b)
The Society may confer Honorary Membership of the
Society upon any person not being an Old Aldenhamian in appreciation of
services to the School or the Society. 5. Membership shall be for an initial
period of 20 years from the time that a pupil leaves the School and pays his
or her subscription. Members thereafter shall be invited to continue
membership at an annual subscription to be determined by the Committee (see
Rule 3). Voluntary donations and legacies are invited. 6. The management of the Society,
election of the new members, and the administration of funds of the Society,
shall be vested in a Committee, consisting of twelve members elected by the
Society, and having full powers. 7. The President, Honorary Treasurer,
and Joint Honorary Secretaries for the time being, and such Vice-Presidents
as may from time to time be elected by the members of the Society, shall be
ex officio members of the Committee. The President of the Society shall
hold office for three years. 8. At meetings of the Committee four
shall form a quorum, and the Chairman shall have a casting vote in the event
of equality. 9. The Committee may delegate any of
their powers to any sub-committee appointed by them for any specific purpose
or purposes. 10. Casual vacancies on the Committee
or among the officials of the Society in any year may be filled by the
Committee, but any member or officer so appointed shall only hold office
until the next annual general meeting; and any vacancy or office not filled
at any annual general meeting may similarly be filled by the Committee
subsequently, if so authorised by such meeting. 11. Committee meetings shall from time
to time be called by the Joint Honorary Secretaries as they shall think fit,
and in addition they shall call a meeting at any time within one month after
being required in writing to do so by two members of the Committee, stating
the objective. 12. One third of the elected members of
the Committee shall retire at the Annual General Meeting in 1903, and
one-third at every subsequent annual general meeting; but those retiring
shall be eligible for re-election. Those members who shall have been
longest in office shall be those to retire each year, and in the event of
parity of service the selection shall be by ballot unless otherwise
arranged. 13. The Annual General Meeting of the
Society shall be held every year before the end of April at such place as
the Committee shall arrange, and at least fourteen days’ previous notice
thereof shall be given to the members by the Joint Honorary Secretaries,
stating shortly the business to be transacted; if however, the Old
Aldenhamian Dinner shall be fixed for any date between April and August in
any year, the Committee shall at their discretion have power to postpone the
Annual General Meeting for that particular year, until the date of the
Dinner. 14. Such other meetings of the Society
shall be held from time to time as the Committee shall think fit. 15. The Honorary Treasurer shall keep
the accounts of the Society and shall make up and present at each annual
general meeting of the Society a balance sheet showing income and
expenditure, and the financial position for the time being of the Society. 16. The Rules of the Society shall not
be altered except at the Annual General Meeting, and unless the alteration
be carried out by a majority of two-thirds of the members present and
voting. Any member desirous of proposing any alteration in the rules of the
Society, or bringing forward any resolution at the Annual General Meeting,
shall give notice in writing of such proposal to one of the Joint Honorary
Secretaries by 1st December previous. Proposals, of which notice shall have
not been given as above, shall only be put at any meeting by leave of the
Chairman thereof and two-thirds of the members present and voting.
17. Any group of Old Aldenhamians who
propose to form a club or society for the purpose of playing games or
engaging in other pursuits shall not use the style “Old Aldenhamian” in
describing their activities unless the approval of the Committee has first
been obtained. The latter must be endorsed by the Annual General Meeting. For those OAs who did not

Summary of New Membership Arrangements (as agreed at the 2002 AGM) From September 2002, pupils
wishing to join the Society (or their parents) pay a lump sum which gives
membership for 20 years, thereafter membership continues by paying an annual
subscription. Members who joined before
September 2002 have life status, however they are invited to a voluntary annual
subscription of £10 per annum Thus those members who left
Aldenham in Summer 1989 or before are invited to pay the £10 annual subscription

9th April 1902, at the Freemasons' Tavern, Great Queen Street, London.
