Thank you for your letter of 18 December to which I am only now able to reply as I have been away.
I feel that I would like to support your project, if only in a small way.
I have recently found the enclosed “Blue Book” dated January 1938, which may be of interest. Incidentally, after 64 years I can confess that the “ticks” against some items mean that that rule was duly broken!
I note in the rules that straw hats must be worn on Sundays. This recalls a “sign of the times” in that a master- Mr Fred English (who taught French) tended to lecture boys on how to raise their hats to ladies. Touching the rim or tipping the hat was not enough. One should raise the hat off the head until the label inside could be read. This rule applied, he stressed, to all ladies, be it the Headmaster’s wife or a chambermaid. Mr English was always seen to raise his “mortor board” in this way. I trust that present day boys are equally courteous.
I hope that these items may be of interest and good luck to your project.
