OLD ALDENHAMIAN DAY

Sunday 22nd June 2003

OA Day was a fabulous success with over 230 OAs and their wives and partners attending.  The day began with Coffee in Houses followed by a magnificent and very well attended Chapel Service which included moving tributes to two former members of staff, Geoffrey Crawshaw and Ken Barnard.  The Chapel Service collection amounted to Ł802.90, a fantastic sum, and will be split between two cancer charities nominated by the families Geoffrey and Ken.  The champagne reception afterwards was held in the Yard and the Shed, a first for this venue on OA Day - Sergeant Major Buckingham would have been delighted!  Lunch was a splendid affair and, due to the large numbers attending, was served in three separate rooms: the Main Dining Room; the Staff Dining Room (the former School House Library); and Leemans Day Room (part of the former School Room).

Amongst the many eminent OAs attending, the School warmly welcomed Bill Kennedy a principal member of the Common Room from 1934 to 1959 and a former Housemaster of McGill’s.  OAs spent the afternoon revisiting old haunts around the School grounds and seeking out former friends, some of whom they had not seen for many years.
