Saturday 17th March
1stXI v Witleians (Home) Lost 6-3
Scorers: N How, K Worsnop (Own Goal)
Team: M Davies, S Hunt, M Butcher, D Marsh, P Clemow, A Berg, J Joyce, M
Berg, H How, K Worsnop, N Corbett Substitute: P Hubbard
Match Report: A fairly even contest ended with the 1stXI losing by a
larger margin than they deserved. Having taken the lead on two separate
occasions in the first half only to see mistakes in the defence lead to the
opposition clawing their way back into the game and a third mistake of the half
leading to them going in 3-2 down. The loss of Nik How before half-time who had
been causing the opposition numerous problems and then down to 10 men when Andy
Berg hobbled off only led to the opposition increasing their lead. Only a superb
individual goal from Kevin Worsnop the only bright moment of the
second half. A very solid Witleians side won this game due to Aldenham allowing
them back into it on a number of occasions although not much can be said for the
oppositions sportsmanship as they have to be the worst in the league for playing
fair.
2ndXI v Bradfieldians2 (Home) Lost 6-0
Team: H Moledina, K Aina, M Garner, C Ezugo, A Cinnamond, G Kaye, A Kaye,
S Purton, T Jenner, A Carroll
Match Report: A strong Bradfield side, who look as if they will go up
this season beat a spirited performance from the 2ndXI, it was only in the last
15 minutes that Bradfield found the net four times to make the score line 6-0.
Saturday 10th March
1stXI v Foresters (Home) Lost 5 - 1 (Half-Time 1-1)
Scorer: K Worsnop
Team: B Thrussell, P Hubbard, P Clemow, D Marsh, M Butcher, K Worsnop, S
Hunt, M Berg, A Berg, N Corbett, N How
Match Report: Without wishing to sound biased, the 1stXI never deserved
to lose this game 5-1, having outplayed Forest for the first 30 minutes but
without really putting pressure on their goal that the possession deserved.
Forest opened the scoring with a header at the far post. Kevin Worsnop levelled
the game up with a superb low strike from the edge of the box. But the firsts
continued to play as if the Dunn Result was at the forefront of their mind and
were happy to be containing this Forest side. In the second half Forest came
back into the game and scored the goals the Firsts should have scored when they
had the opportunity. Three goals were dubious but they all came in a last 15
minute spree. In conclusion, the Firsts should have finished off this Forest
side before they even had the opportunity to score four at the end.
Saturday 24th February
1stXI v Wykehamists (Away) Won 4-2
Scorers: M Berg (2), N Corbett, N How
Team: B Thrussell, P Hubbard, D Marsh (Captain), P Clemow, M Butcher, S
Hunt, T McAllister, A Berg, N How, M Berg, N Corbett
Match Report: This was a very good result for the 1stXI, unfortunately the
referee played a larger part in the game than the players with some very dubious
decisions. But the Firsts still came away with the spoils. It was a close fought
first half with Wykehamists going in 1-0 up, the goal was a terrible decision
from the referee, initially when the ball was played through two of their
players were offside and then to make it worse there was hardly any contact with
the player in the penalty box for the penalty. Aldenham mounted a great
deal of pressure on Wykehamists in the first half with no reward but in a 15
minute period in the second half they slotted away 3 goals, two from Martyn Berg
and the other from Nik Corbett. In the last 15 minutes Nik How scored the
fourth, and in the last 5 minutes Wykehamists were awarded a second dubious
penalty, but it was to make no difference to the result.
2ndXI v Foresters 3 (Away) Drew 3-3
Team: Amin, H Moledina, M Garner, A Kaye, A Cinnamond, K Aina, S Goodfellow,
M Cox, S Radin, Luke, James
Match Report: In a hard fought game the Seconds came away with a deserved
point, at half-time they were 3-0 down so to get a draw was a great second half
performance. It seemed as if the referee was having a bad day as Forest scored
two goals which looked offside and allowed a number of very nasty tackles to go
unpunished. Unfortunately if the referee does not take control of the game, it
can quite easily get out of hand. But for the Seconds to pick up a point after
being three down is a good result.
Saturday 17th February
2ndXI v Cholmeleians 2 (Home) Won 4-2
Scorers: Simon Radin (2), Kevin Worsnop (2)
Team: A Thrussell, H Moledina, A Lalani, P Hubbard, M Butcher, N How, K
Worsnop, S Radin, M Jones, K Aina, M Butcher
Match Report: In a closely fought game, that certainly had all the
ingredients of a good local derby game, with two penalties, bookings galore for
both sides, a number of attempts hitting woodwork and i am sure a good use of
the English dictionary. Cholms opened the scoring in the first half, but the
seconds came straight back at them with two goals and then just before half-time
Aldenham were awarded a suspect penalty which was duly slotted away. In the
second half Cholms scored from a penalty to make it 3-2 at this point they
threatened to level hitting the post twice before Aldenham scored the fourth
goal and walked away from a tough fought game with the spoils. It is always nice
to beat your local rivals!
Saturday 10th February
1stXI v Malvernians (Home) Lost 2-1
Scorer: M Berg
Team: B Thrussell, P Hubbard, P Clemow, D Marsh (capt.), M Butcher, K
Worsnop, M Jones, A Berg, N How, N Corbett, M Berg
Match Report: The Firsts were unfortunate not to at least be awarded with
a point for their efforts. Against a side who spent most of the game either late
to their tackles or whinging, the Firsts never really made the opportunities
they created count. In the first half it was evenly matched game, with Aldenham
creating the two best chances from corners the first Martyn Berg saw his header
goalbound only for the keeper to pull off a great save and then five minutes
later Andy Berg heading goalbound only to see it hit the post and come back out.
In the second half a dubious penalty allowed Malvern to take the lead, as far as
everyone was concerned it never touched the arm but the chest, but Aldenham
fought back bravely and were awarded when Martyn Berg chipped the goalkeeper
and brought us level. But you know when it is not your day when the opposition
on their next attack score, an attempted clearance landed at the only Malvern
players feet and he duly drove it just inside the right post. Aldenham created
another three golden chances
only to waste all three. A spirited performance from the Firsts can count
themselves unlucky not to have earned a point but for the second game on the
trot the referee seemed to be the oppositions 12th man.
2ndXI v Carthusians III (Home) Lost 5-1
Scorer: C Ezugo
Team: Amin, T Cocozza, M Garner, H Moledina, M Cox, S Radin, C Ezugo, T
Jenner, K Aina, A Thrussell, S Williams
Match Report: After a close fought first half, Charterhouse scored four
unanswered goals in the second half and showed why they are top of division
three. If the seconds can beat the sides down at the bottom of the division they
should be able to stay up this season.
Saturday 3rd February
2ndXI v Old Millhillians (Home) Won 7-1
Scorers: T McAllister 2, M Allen 2, N How 2, T Jenner Team: Amin, P
Clemow, H Moledina, D Marsh, M Butcher, K Worsnop, T McAllister, A Berg, N How,
T Jenner, M Allen
Substitutes: K Aina for T Jenner (45 Minutes), P Hubbard for H Moledina
(45 Minutes), T Cocozza for M Allen (70 Minutes)
Match Report: The 2ndXI duly recorded their second win of the season when
they thumped Mill Hill, the result was never in doubt when within half hour the
Seconds were 4-1 up, with three brilliant goals, N How's corner going straight
in, T McAllister pile driver from the edge of the box (very similar to Roberto
Di Matteo FA Cup Final Goal for Chelsea v Middlesbrough) and K Worsnop's run
from the edge of his own box beating 5 players in the process and then slipping
it to T Jenner to finish it off. The second half was far less eventful with Mill Hill
not even getting a shot on goal and Aldenham having at least 10 chances but only
finishing 2 more to finish the rout.
Saturday 27th January 2001
1stXI v Witleians Lost 5-1 (Half-Time 3-0)
Scorer: K Worsnop
Team: B Thrussell, P Clemow, D Marsh (Captain), A Berg, S Hunt, N How, M
Jones, M Herbert, K Worsnop, N Corbett, M Berg.
Substitute: A Carroll for M Herbert after 45 Minutes.
Match Report: This was a closely fought game, in which the Firsts can
feel disappointed in not coming away with at least a point. The Firsts dominated
the first 20 minutes without actually really putting the Witleians goal under
intense pressure. On one of their first attacks a well placed cross was
headed goalwards by their centre midfield only for it to hit one our defenders
and deflect away from Ben. They then scored two more, one dubious
offside and then the other a good clinical finish. This by no way a one sided
affair and when it was still goalless the Firsts had a good call for a
penalty when Nik was chopped down in the box but the referee just seemed to wave
on play, (one of his five shocking decisions). Dan also hit the post
when only 1-0 down, it seemed as if the gods & the referee had already
decided the Firsts would go away pointless. In the second half an early
fourth goal just about wrapped it up, the Firsts carried on playing good
football without really breaking down the opposition but another shocking
tackle on Nik in the penalty box was missed by the referee, we were surprised
that Nik's leg was still attached to his body. In all it was physical game
which the referee never really took control of but in all fairness to Witleians
they were well organised and finished their opportunities, it would
have been a better game if a more strict referee had been in charge.
2ndXI v Bradfieldians2 Lost 5-1
Scorer: H Moledina
Team: H Moledina, T Cocozza, M Allen, M Butcher, M Garner, C Ezugo, S
Williams, P Hubbard, T Jenner, T Aldridge, A Kaye, K Aina
Match Report: After a closely fought first to which the Seconds went it
1-0 down, they pulled themselves back into the game with a goal from Hanif
Moledina only to allow the opposition to score four goals in the last twenty
minutes. Unfortunately the Seconds came away from a good display without a
result but full credit to Brafield who as a Club this year are looking very
strong.
Saturday 13th January 2001
1stXI v Wellingburians - Won 4-3 (Half Time 1-1)
Scorers:
P Clemow, M Berg, Tom 2
Team: B Thrussell, P Clemow, A Berg, A Meara, A Carroll, S Hunt, M Jones,
S Richmond, K Worsnop, M Berg, N Corbett
Substitutes: M Herbert, Tom
Match Report: A close fought affair, ended with Aldenham walking away
with the spoils. The Aldenham team spent most of the first 20 minutes, sweating
out the Christmas festivities and after a dubious offside decision found
themselves 1-0 down after 15 minutes. Aldenham then spent most of the first half
camped in the oppositions half and were at last rewarded when Nik Corbett put in
a great cross and Paul Clemow duly headed it into the bottom corner. It was a
great second half if you were a supporter as the football flowed from end to end
and every time Wellinborough gained the lead, Aldenham would duly equalise, the
second goal coming from Martyn Berg and the third and fourth goals (the winner)
coming from Tom. It was a fair result as Aldenham played the better football
during the game.
2ndXI v Old Eastborunians (Junior League Cup) - Lost 1-6
Team: T Aldridge, H Moledina, T Cocozza, C Ezugo, M Okoru, M Garner, S
Williams, M Bell, do not have names for the other three players, although
they were Old Aldenhamians
Match Report: Against an opposition a league above them, Aldenham
struggled to find any rhythm, and were duly beaten by Eastbourne.
Saturday 16th December 2000
1stXI v Old Foresters - Arthur Dunn Cup - Lost 10-0.
Team: B Thrussell, P Clemow, Steve, A Berg, S Hunt, K Worsnop, M Jones, T McAllister, M Allen, N Corbett, M Berg. Subs: N How, M
Butcher, F Allen
Match Report: The 1stXI were well and truly beaten by
Forest, against a decent team the Firsts did themselves no favours when they
went 3-0 down in the first 15 minutes mainly due to errors by Aldenham rather
than Forest playing well. But nothing can be taken away from Forest they were
well organised, disciplined and used possession and their opportunities to great
effect, unfortunately the Firsts had no reply and found themselves 8-0 down just
after half-time. Without handing Forest the first 3 goals, Aldenham may have
made a better game of it then they did. We will have to just concentrate on the
league from now on!
2ndXI Lost 2-0 v Carthusians 3 (Away)
Team: A Thrussell, T Cocozza, H Moledina, A Meara, A
Carroll, T Jenner, S Jones, K Aina, A Lalani, C Ezugo, S Radin
Saturday 2nd December 2000
1stXI v Wellingborough (Away) Won 4-1 (Half-Time 0-1)
Scorers: N Corbett 3, K
Worsnop
Team: G Thomas, S Hunt, A Carroll, P Clemow, A Berg, M
Jones (capt.), Steve, K Worsnop, M Allen, N Corbett, M Berg
Match Report: This was another good result for the
1stXI picking up their first away win of the season. Having spent the majority
of the first half camped in the opposition penalty area and doing everything but
scoring (hitting the crossbar 3 times and the post from a close range header) it
was bound to happen that on Wellingborough's first attack they scored, when one
of their midfield players chipped the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.
Fortunately in the second half, the 1stXI's control of the game was at last
rewarded when they scored three goals in the first ten minutes of the second
half, which put them on their way to a convincing win and the fourth was added
after about 70 minutes. Nik Corbett again showed his confidence in front of
goal, scoring three goals from one on one opportunities with the goalkeeper,
this takes him to five goals in two games. K Worsnop scored the other goal when
after cutting in from the wing, he hit a low shot from the edge of the box which
crept under the goalie.
Saturday 25th November 2000
1stXI v Wykehamists Won 4-1 (Half-Time 2-1)
Scorers: N Corbett 2, T McAllister
(penalty), A Berg
Team: B Thrussell, P Clemow, A Berg, D Marsh, M Allen,
S Hunt, M Jones, T McAllister, K Worsnop, N Corbett, M Berg Substitutes: Steve,
N Howell
Match Report: (by Paul Clemow): On a very wet and windy
afternoon, the 1stXI notched up their first win of the season with a very
impressive performance. The result was never in doubt with the Firsts
outplaying and overpowering their opposition for the full 90 minutes, the only
hiccup was allowing Wykehamists to draw level before going on to win the game in
the second half. Tim McAllister opened the scoring with his third
successful penalty of the campaign, Nik Corbett then helped out scoring two one
on one chances against the goalkeeper either side of the half. The win was
completed when Andy Berg headed home the fourth with about 10 minutes left
before the end. The 1stXI having been outplayed in their last two games put on a
solid performance against a Wykehamists side who had been unbeaten this season
and in poor conditions played the much better football for the full 90 minutes,
hopefully the winning streak will be carried on next week against Wellingburians
(Away).
Saturday 18th November 2000
Away 1st XI v Old Bradfieldians Lost 4-0 (Half-Time 0-1)
Team: B Thrussell, Z Berman, P Clemow, Adam, A Berg, M
Herbert, M Jones, M Berg, N Corbett, M Allen, T Jenner
Match Report: After last weeks disappointing result
against Bradfield, the 1stXI could only come away happy with the fact that they
have been consistent in losing to Bradfield by the same score. After a fairly
even first 15 minutes Bradfield found a gap down on the left and punished
Aldenham with a clean shot at the near post. It was due to a sloppy pass in the
middle of the park that left the 1stXI short of players in the first instance.
In the second half Bradfield used there strength in the midfield to good use and
found the net three times leaving Aldenham pointless from their two games versus
Bradfield.
Home 2nd XI v Harrovians (Home) Lost 4-5 (Scorers: K
Aina, M Okoru, N Howell 2)
Team: A Thrussell, H Moledina (capt.), T Cocozza, A
Selwyn, A Carroll, K Aina, N Howell, A Meara, M Okoru, C Ezugo, Steve, S Jones
Match Report: A closely fought game ended with the 2ndXI
losing a 9 goal thriller, due to a dubious offside decision and a penalty late
on in the game. A draw would have been a fair result, this lose leaves the 2ndXI
desperate from points in the upcoming games.
Saturday 11th November 2000
Home 1st XI v Old Bradfieldians Lost 4-0 (Half-Time 0-1)
Team: M Berg, M Allen, D Marsh, K Worsnop, P Clemow, S
Hunt, T McAllister, M Herbert, M Jones (capt.), N Corbett, T Jenner
Match Report: On a very windy and rainy day, the 1stXI were
beaten by a well organised opposition. Bradfield took control of the game from
the kick-off, although some resolute defending especially from Dan Marsh kept
the game scoreless, until in the end Bradfield found a way through the 1stXI
back four and scored about 15 minutes before half-time. At half-time the 1stXI
were still in with a great chance of getting a result from the game but
Bradfield's dominance in the second half left the 1stXI with few opportunities
in front of goal, and as the game drew on Bradfield took their opportunities to
seal the win.
Saturday 4th November 2000
London Old Boys Cup - Away: 2nd XI v Old Thorntonians Lost 2-1
Scorer: T McAllister (penalty)
Team: A Thrussell, Z Berman, D Marsh, P Clemow, M Allen,
M Butcher, A Berg, T McAllister (Capt.), M Herbert, N Corbett, T Jenner
Substitutes: S Hunt for Z Berman, M Berg (Not Used)
Match Report: This was a closely fought game between two evenly
matched sides. Thorntonians seemed less troubled by the poor state of the pitch
and controlled the first half, although their dominance never put the Aldenham
goal under any real pressure. It was Aldenham who created the best two chances
in the first half. Firstly Nik Corbett left one on one with the goalkeeper
placed his shot wide of the goal and Matt Allen from the left edge of the box
driving a shot just over the bar. In the second half Aldenham started to compete
with their opposition and were unlucky not to get a chance to 1-0 up when Nik
Corbett left one on one with the goalkeeper was brought down from behind by the
last defender just outside the box. To add insult to injury the defender did not
even receive a yellow card for his cynical tackle. From the resulting free-kick
Mark Herbert went close when the keeper tipped his shot just over the bar. With
only about 15 minutes left to play Thorntonians centre forward scored with a
shot from just outside of the box. With no choice for Aldenham but to
attack they pushed players forward with positive effect when Toby Jenner hit a
low cross into the path of Nik Corbett only to see the same defender from
earlier mistime his tackle and Aldenham were duly awarded a penalty. The penalty
was taken by Tim McAllister who sent the keeper the wrong way and scored with a
shot into the left corner. With both sides raising their game the last ten
minutes were going to be a closely fought game, and it was a low struck shot
from outside of the box which just crept inside the post which gave Thorntonians
the win. Aldenham put the opposition under pressure for the last five minutes
with no reward.
Saturday 21st October 2000
Away: 1stXI v Old Malvernians Lost 4-3.
Scorers: M Herbert 2, T Jenner
Team: B Thrussell, M Butcher, D Marsh, A Berg, S Hunt, T
McAllister, M Jones, T Jenner, S Bloom, M Herbert, M Allen, S Jones
Match Report: A closely fought game, ended in disappointment
for the 1stXI when in the dying minutes a penalty was given away and was duly
slotted home by Malvern leaving the OA's coming away without a point for their
toils. It was a far more encouraging performance than in previous weeks and it
was hoped this would be carried on into the upcoming games.
Home: 2ndXI v Old Foresters3 Lost 9-0.
Team: T Aldrige, T Cocozza, P Clemow, H Moledina, Steve,
A Carroll, K Aina, M Okoru, A Meara, C Ezugo
Match Report: Unfortunately for the 2ndXI it was a day to
forget, not only did they have to play with only 10 men ( 2 not turning up), and
then being reduced to 9 in the second half due to injury, but a clash of kits
left them having to wear t-shirts on a typical cold day in October. It was
always going to be an uphill struggle to get a result from this game, especially
as the Old Foresters 3rdXI seem stronger than their 2ndXI, who the OA's had
played a few weeks before and beaten them. Foresters were held to 3-0 up to the
last 15 minutes when they unfortunately worked out our offside trap and duly
wrapped up the game with a late barrage of goals. It was not all negative as
those who played that day showed a great deal of resilience to hold Foresters to
only 3 goals in the first 75 minutes.
